KIDAPAWAN and Midsayap woodpushers will try to give Davao City bets a stiff contest when the Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Kadayawan Age-Group Chess Tournament gets underway on Saturday until Sunday at the NCCC Mall Davao Food Cove Hall.
This was bared by National Chess Federation of the Philippines regional director James Infiesto during the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum at Dexter's Pizza Stadium in Matina Thursday.
He said, "Aside from the individual winners, we will also give out trophies for school champions in 10-below, 14-below and 20-below categories. This is our way of also giving credit to the schools."
He said that they want to discover younger players to fill the gap after top-rated junior bets Fide Master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus and John Ray Batucan as well as boys 12-under chesser John Marvin Miciano were recruited for varsity scholarships in Manila.
The three have been consistent in bringing honor to the city.
Categories entered are boys and girls 10 years old and below, 14-below and 20-below.
Prizes at stake are medals and cash prizes for the top three placers in each category. Registration fee is P25.
