THE Manila All-Stars Spikers crushed Davao All-Stars, 25-15, in the recently concluded Volleyball Stars live in Davao for a Cause 2013 at University of Southeastern Philippines gym.
The Manila All-stars scored first in the first set, rocking the All-stars of Davao, with a 25-10 lead in favor of the visitors.
Meanwhile, the home team tried to defend its honor in the second set, managing to claw their way to a 13-all score.
Unfortunately for them, the Manila All-stars served up a flurry of aces, causing the Davaoeñas their second defeat, 25-16.
The visitors continued to dominate the third set after ruling with a 10 lead against their Davao volley tossers, and ultimately ending at 25-10.
Charlyn "Cha" Cruz and Stephanie Mecado, formerly of Dela Salle University Lady Spikers gave her team the lead during the three-set game.
On the other hand, Davao's Liezle Manatad of University of Mindanao Tagum proved her might as she downed a series of succesful spikes which caught the visitors off-guard.
Manatad said in an interview that it was a privilege to compete against well-known volleyball players from Manila.
However, she added that they could have played better if they had more time for preparation.
"Actually, kulang mi ug practice kasi conflict man gud sya sa ubang schedule," said the 29-year-old team captain of the Davao All-stars.
Manabat attested that their coach was not hands-on during training them because of the coach's separate profession.
She said that she was able to play against some players of Manila All-Stars in a beach volleyball tournament. This, however, was her first time to compete against them in indoor volleyball.
On the other hand, Davao All-Stars coach Eric Lim admitted that their opponent was strong and very capable of winning because of their experience.
The Manila All-Stars line-up was composed of crowd darling Fille Cainglet, Charlyn Cruz, Alysa Dane "Jaja" Santiago, Stephanie Mercado, Suzan Roces, libero Jenelyn Reyes and team captain Rubie de Leon.
Meanwhile, the Davao All-stars line-up was team captain Liezle Manatad of UM Tagum, May Shiel Agton, Ma. Aurora Enriquez of Ateneo de Davao University, libero Jana Van Hamoy of San Pedro College, Mary Grace Reyes, Maricel Carus and Roxanne Boltiador of Holy Cross College of Davao.
