DAVAO City's Lee Vann Corteza and Surigao del Sur's Dennis Orcollo will try to bounce back from last year's painful first round loss as they join forces anew for Team Philippines in the 2013 World Cup of Pool set Sept. 17 to 22 at York Hall in London.
Corteza and Orcollo were booted in the Last 16 round of the just-concluded World 9-Ball Championship in Doha Qatar that was ruled by Thorsten Hohmann of Germany.
The Filipino pool sharks, who lost to Switzerland in the 2012 edition in Manila, is pitted against Croatia in the first round set at 6 p.m., London time, on opening day.
Also seeing action on first day are Finland against Austria, Korea vs Estonia, Germany vs Malaysia, Holland vs Scotland, and England vs Portugal.
Corteza told Matchroom Pool, "I am very honored to be given another chance to represent the Philippines in the World Cup of Pool. To be honest, last year was like a blur and it was over before we knew it. The pressure from our home crowd was a little too much to handle but hopefully this time we can perform better."
The 32-nation event stakes $60,000 for the champion pair.
The Philippines won the tournament twice with the legendary duo of Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante. (MLSA)
