NEWLY-CROWNED 888.com World Cup of Pool (Wcop) champion pair Lee Vann Corteza and Dennis Orcollo will try to double their feat when they see action in the Jakarta 9-Ball Open in Indonesia this weekend.
The 34-year-old Corteza, who hails from Mintal in Davao City, and Bislig, Surigao del Sur native Orcollo, however, may have to play against each other as the tournament is no longer a team but an individual event.
Corteza, in a Facebook chat interview on Monday afternoon, said they will only stay for two days in Manila to be with their families before proceeding to Jakarta.
It would be a hectic schedule for the Dabawenyo pool ace, who paired with Orcollo to pocket the Wcop gold medal for the Philippines at York Hall, Bethnal Green in London, England Monday dawn, Philippine Standard Time, before the year ends.
"Punta muna ako ng Jakarta tapos sa October sa US Open 9-Ball naman sa Chesapeake, Virginia then All-Japan Championship sa Osaka by November," Corteza told Sun.Star Davao.
The US Open 9-Ball is slated October 13 to 19.
It can be recalled that the multiple Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medalist finished 17th in the 2011 US Open 9-Ball but won the US Open 10-Ball in 2010.
Corteza placed fifth in last year's All-Japan Men's Championship.
With a high morale booster in the just-concluded World Cup, Corteza aims to add more titles this year. He also emerged champion in the China Open recently where he brougt home US$40,000, his biggest paycheck so far in 2013. He shared with Orcollo the $60,000 prize purse of the World Cup.
Corteza said, "Pangarap ko lang naman manalo sa mga tournaments na sinasalihan ko. Nangangarap din ako katulad ng ibang mga players na maging world champion sa 8-ball at 9-ball."
He along with Orcollo were booted out in the Last 16 of the World 9-Ball Championship held early this month in Doha, Qatar.
When asked about defending the Word Cup title next year, Corteza replied,
" Hindi ko pa masasagot iyan sa ngayon. Sa amin lang ni Dennis, gagawin namin ang lahat ng makakaya namin sa laban."
Corteza and Orcollo defeated Holland's Nick van Den Berg and Niels Feijen, 10-8, in their Wcop finals match.
