THE First Davao Executive and Employee Rapid Chess Tournament, which unfurls on Oct. 13 at the NCCC Mall Food Cove Hall, will just be one among three legs to be held in the city before the year ends.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto said, "We will have three legs for this tournament. Winners of the three legs will advance to the grand finals set early next year."
Infiesto, who was a guest at the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum at Dexter's Pizza Stadium in Matina Thursday, said he has also proposed to NCFP to stage a national executive and employees chess tournament to provide a venue for chess enthusiasts who are already in the corporate ladder to compete.
"Luzon already has a series of legs for executive chess and soon Visayas will start it. We hope to have a national championship for this," Infiesto said.
The inaugural leg in Davao, meanwhile, is open to board and bar exam passers, employees, seniors, retired employees, and entrepreneurs and businessmen.
Interested participants will have to present valid IDs or certificate of employment or senior citizen IDs or business permit.
Registration is P500 inclusive of lunch, snack, ID, certificate of participation and NCFP rating.
Walk-in registrants, however, will be accommodated from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Oct. 13.
Cash prizes of P2,500, P1,500 and P750 will be awarded to the top three placers while the next two chessers will each get P500. The champion will also receive trophy while the rest will settle for medals.
The Swiss System format competition is organized by NCFP Davao in coordination with the Davao City Sports Consumers Cooperative.
