BIKING enthusiasts from all walks of life may now join Globe Arakan XC2, a 60-kilometer out-and-back loop fun ride from the Philippine Eagle Center to Barangay Salaysay in Arakan Valley, North Cotabato.
Lead Pack Event Management's Alex Sam said doctors, nurses, businessmen and employees are regular participants of the event will benefit the Philippine Eagle Foundation's Forest Corridor Development Initiatives (PEF-FCDI) that aims to provide educational and livelihood support to the communities that ensure the sustainability of the FCDI and to provide paralegal and raptor management training.
"Enthusiasts who couldn't afford the registration fee may still join the ride but they won't be receiving any jersey. They can participate and enjoy the thrill and the adventure of the challenging route," Sam said during Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at Dexter's Pizza Stadium in Matina.
From the Philippine Eagle Center, riders will pass through Calinan District Hall about 4.6 kilometers (km) from the starting line. They will then head towards Arakan Valley via the rolling, well-paved Davao-Bukidnon Road. As they reach Barangay Lumandao, which is 27 km. from the kick-off, they will turn left to Barangay Salaysay for the three-kilometer trail ride. They will return to the origin after reaching the turn-around sign using the same route.
The P1,200 donation is inclusive of contribution to the Forest Corridor Development program, biker's kit of event jersey, race bib, race bike number, food and drinks. Globe subscribers who will register with their Globe numbers will get a special rate of P1,000.
To sign up, register online: http://globe.i-volunteer.ph/register or visit the Sports Depot at Victoria Plaza Mall Davao for registration forms. No payments will be accepted at the shop. Registration is until Saturday only.
All donations should be deposited to PEF's bank account -- Philippine Eagle Conservation Program Foundation Inc. BPI Quirino Davao City Branch Account No. 9441-0113-31.
Sam said some 80 riders have confirmed as of press time with some 20 coming from Globe Telecom Manila while the rest are from other parts of Mindanao.
Organizers, however, expect to exceed last year's turnout of 88 participants by hitting 200 participants this year.
A total of P600,000 was donated to the PEF in the 2012 inaugural staging of the fun ride for a cause.
