PERKINS Bayron bested 24 other players to capture the First Davao Executive and Employee Rapid Chess Tournament title at the NCCC Mall Food Cove Hall Sunday.
Bayron of Bayron's Photoshop edged fellow 4.5 scorer businessman Rodrigo Catayas via superior tiebreaks to win the first leg of the Davao series competition.
Catayas settled for the runner-up honors instead while Ramil Langamon of Julie's Bakeshp and lawyer Jong Guevarra of the Guevarra Law Office scored identical four points to place third and fourth, respectively.
Cris Cantupay of Master Siomai earned 3.5 points to grab the solo fifth place in the five-round Swiss System format competition organized by National Chess Federation of the Philippines Region 11 in coordination with the Davao City Sports Consumers Cooperative.
Three-pointers Rosauro Peralta, Reynaldo de Guzman, businessman Daniel Leonor, Reynaldo Gempero of Agway Chemicals, Bonjee Entertainment owner NCFP regional director James Infiesto and Holcim accountant Billy Nudas occupied the sixth to 11 spots.
Lawyer Melzar Galicia, for his part, led 2.5 performers MBTC vice-president Rey Urbiztondo and Jose Maria College teacher Rowel Modina.
Precious International School of Davao teacher Lyndon Sombilon, Pro Life UK financial adviser Joel Gimony, Great View Resort manager Rey Amable, Anflocor senior accountant Giovanni Pimentl, MBTC Tagum manager Homer Rotulo, Calinan Chess Club president Jose Yparraguirre, lawyer Elnathan Emilio and lawyer Roland Reyes each made two points while Engr. Dominador Navarez of Navarez Botica, Ronaldo Pino and Fritz Arnold trailed behind.
De Guzman of Q.T. Marketing bagged the top employee award while Galicia got the top executive honors. Leonor was top unrated player even as German Fritz copped the top senior plum. (MLSA)
