DCSP nips UM for first DCL win-A A +A

THE DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) Mariners beat University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats, 56-54, to draw first blood in the resumption of the Top 6 single elimination round of the Davao Champions League at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym over the weekend.
The Mariners, down 9-28 in the first period, rallied in the third canto and engaged the Wildcats into a hill-to-hill battle going into the fourth before escaping with the win.
Ronald Bangoy drilled in 18 points to lead scoring for DCSP while Al-naef Lacid added 12 and Rashid Sacatan and Jhaymart Oquias chipped in 10 apiece.
Rey Anthony Suerte poured in 21 baskets for the Wildcats who absorbed their second loss in three outings. Deonne King Ladao contributed nine points.
UM earlier hacked out a 57-52 win over Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors with Suerte accounting for 12 points. Mikko Estrellante and Kenneth Bendijo scored identical 10 points.
The Agro Sailors, however, bounced back by sinking the Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings, 50-38, behind Estrellante and Bendijo who combined for 20. James Vien Soriano made 12 points for JMC's lost cause.
The JMC Kings also recovered after humbling the Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights, 62-47. Jumabon Bulac and Bob Ombecan lifted the Kings with 18 and 13, respectively. Ateneo's Paolo Angelo Dailisan canned 16.
Agro and JMC toted similar 2-1m win-loss card to grab the first two spots of the team standings followed by 1-0 DCSP in third. The 0-1 Ateneo and 0-1 Holy Cross of Davao College shared the cellar.
The top four teams after the round-robin format will advance to the semi-finals of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned cagefest that is presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc.
