HIGHLY-touted Jose Maria College (KMC) Kings grabbed the No. 1 spot as the Davao Champions League opens the semi-final round on Monday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
JMC, Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors, DMMA College of Southern Philippines Mariners and University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats booked seats in the cross-over semi-finals.
The JMC Kings demolished Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders, 76-58, at the Rizal Memrorial Colleges (RMC) Gym yesterday to notch its fourth win in five outings.
Jumabon Bulac buried six consecutive three points of his total 24 output to lift the Kings over the Crusaders who absorbed their fourth straight defeat. James Vien Soriano and Bob Clu Ombecan added 13 and 12, respectively.
The Crusaders' Warren Jay Quitoriano had 12, Gerty Eben with 11 and Roland John 10.
In the other game, the Agro Sailors sank the Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights, 63-46, behind Compostela Valley native Mikko Estrallante who sank 17 baskets. His teammate Erickson Galacgac chipped in 11 to help the Sailors improve to a 3-1 card alongside the DMMA College of Southern Philippines.
Paolo Angelo Dailisan made 14 markers for Ateneo that shared with HCDC the bottom of the team standings with 0-4 each.
Tournament commissioner Goldie Delvo, in a phone interview, yesterday said Agro and DMMACSP will play against each other for the last game of the quarter-finals on Saturday.
"It will be a non-bearing game although the outcome will determine their placing in the final four since both teams are toting identical 3-1 record," Delvo said.
She said the No. 1 team will play No. 4 while No. 2 and No. 3 will clash against each other in the semis.
The semis winners will arrange a best-of-three finals on November 4 and 5 where the special side events will also be featured.
