MULTI-titled rider Maiquel "Mikee" Jawn Teh Selga was set to make her debut in the Wake of Thrones set at the Republ1c Wake Park in Nuvali, Laguna as of Friday.
Selga was entered in the amateur women's event along with Russians Maria Kuzminova, Anna Boltaeva and Elena Boltaeva in the semi-finals.
The 13-year-old Selga, in a Facebook chat interview yesterday, said another Russian Mariih Volgina was elevated to the pro event.
"Magaling na magaling na raw po kasi si Volgina kaya hindi na sya isinama sa amin," Selga said.
She said the Russians were very good having seen them do some impressive tricks during the practice ride on Thursday.
The Stella Maris Academy of Davao High School freshman said, "This is the first time I'm competing in the Wake of Thrones at ngayon ko lang din makakalaban ang mga Russians. Ang gagaling po nilang lahat."
Selga, however, said she is ready to also show her wares and signature tricks where she is most comfortable to do.
She plans to execute the Switch hillside frontside 540 off the kicker, Switch backside 360 off the kicker, play 720 on the Tabletop, Switch Ollie 360 and Transfer and Blinding out the Pool Gap, among others.
Each wakeboarder will have only one run to complete her routine in the semis round, thus, Selga needed to give it her best shot.
"Kailangan ko pong ma-hit lahat ng obstacles sa isang ikot. I will do all my best," she said.
Selga may be seeing action in the event for the first time but she is no beginner at the Republ1c as she's been a regular participant in most competitions held at the venue.
She was crowned girls wakeboard 13-under champion in the 7th Philippine Cable Wakeboard Nationals at the Republ1c in August this year. She also had won numerous titles in other wake parks in the country as well as in abroad.
Selga trains at Deca Wakeboard Park Davao at Deca Homes Resort Residences in Barangay Tacunan, Mintal.
