SIX-TIME champion Ateneo de Davao University 12-under girls squad eyes a seven-peat when the 18th Alaska Football Cup kicks off at last at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City on Saturday.

The two-day annual bootfest was earlier set first week of November but was reset due to the onset of monster Typhoon Yolanda.

Ateneo U12 girls coach Reynalyn Ranada Ravanes said, "If patuloy lang ang team work at pagka aggressive to play ng mga players ko, kahit maliliit sila, makakaya naming madepensahan ang title."

Ravanes said they've been in rigid training for the tournament, focusing on teamwork and attitude of players with each other.

She will lean on the services of Denise Diamante, Ysabel Aquino, Yunika Angala, Lianne Co, Kyanna Dimaandal, Chiyo Uy, Julianna Taojo, Luisa Uy, Leara Varquez and Julien Mirto.

"Our team is intact. The players who competed last year are still the same ones seeing action this year. Only Patricia Francisco is no longer with the team since she already graduated," Ravanes said in Facebook messages to this writer.

She added that her team is entered in a category with some 10 to 12 teams.

They will just be among 290 teams of 4,000 players who will be playing in 26 football fields at the Alabang Country Club.

Ateneo is also fielding entries in under-eight, under-12 girls, under-12 boys, under-14 boys, under-16 boys, under-14 girls, under-16 boys and women's open categories in the Seven-A-Side tournament.

Their coaches are leaving today while players will depart for Manila tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Alaska Cup regular Philippine Academy of Sakya teams will also show their wares in the meet even as the Davao Hyenas Football Club of Davao City will make their debut.

Hyenas assistant coach Rex Rodriguez of CIDG Davao recently said that they are competing in six-under and eight-under division.

The Davao Hyenas FC teams are bannered by children of Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel in Davao.

Hyenas FC six-under team, which may pull off surprises, will clash against Makati FS, Alabang FS, Tarlac FS, Xavier, Raya FC, RC Tanauan FC, Atletico Diliman, Ateneo de Davao, Del Monte FC/Bukidnon, La Salle Greenhills, and Ateneo de Manila. (MLSA)
