A TOTAL of 15 teams will vie for four category titles when the 1st Davao City Juniors Rugby Tournament finals kicks off on Saturday and Sunday in separate venues here.
Rugby Football Davao region development officer Kate delos Santos said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Bowling, Billiards and Bar (B3) Center on Thursday.
She said, "From 21 teams that joined the single round elimination starting Oct. 26, we are now down to the final four in boys and girls under-14 and boys and girls under-18 divisions. This is going to be a showcase of the best rugby talents who are under-privileged ones like the city's street children."
The girl’s championship will be played on Saturday at the SOS Children's Village at 2 p.m. while the boys finals will be held on Sunday in Bago Oshiro, Mintal.
Eyeing the girls U14 crown are SOS 1, SOS 2 and Nakamata of Tambayan Center for Children's Rights, Inc. while SOS- Marang, SOS-Walingwaling, Tambayan-Arancillo and Tambayan-Puyat will battle for the girls U18 title.
In boys U14, the Foundation of Balay Pasilungan-Pelayo,

Certificates and medals are up for grabs in the event organized by Vismin Rugby Football Union in partnership with Merkat Security.
Delos Santos said they conducted the tournament in response to the clamor of teams that competed in the first edition.
"Naghahanap ang mga bata, ang mga tims kung saan sila pwedeng maglaro kaya ginawaan uli namin sila ng tournament para exposure narin nila," Delos Santos said.
The activity is being supported by the Davao Durians Rugby Football Club, DHL, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO), Philippine Rugby Football Union, Potbellied Pigs RFC of Hong Kong and SOS Children's Villages Philippines-Davao.
