SEASONED pintoppler Paquito Santos captured the title of the 2nd Tide Matirang Matibay Tenpin Open bowling tournament that concluded Tuesday night at the NCCC Mall B3 Lanes.
Santos escaped a 210-209 win over Dr. Robert Tepoot in their championship match to romp away with the top purse of P15,000. Both players each had a handicap of 30. Tepoot got the runner-up prize of P10,000 instead, while Ray Snyder claimed P5,000 for placing third. They also received trophies.
Tepoot, who was only No. 8 after round 2, climbed the top spot in the one game quarter-finals by hitting 203 pinfalls and retained the lead in the semi-finals with a score of 240. Santos was second in round 2 but dropped to third in the quarters (214) then jumped to second anew with 213 in the semis.
Sammy Talaboc, Manny Nierra and Danny Usman each had P1,000 and a medal for placing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Snyder scored 204 while Talaboc made 198 pinfalls followed by Nierra who rolled 196 pins and Usman with 170 in the semis.
Usman also took the highest total scratch to get P3,000 while Toto Delfin earned a total of P6,000 for winning the highest total with handicap and eliminations No. 1. The latter bagged P3,000 each for the two awards he received from organizers.
The bowlfest, organized by NCCC Mall B3 management, attracted some 50 players from the Davao Tenpin Bolwers Association (Datba) and Durian Tenpin Bowlers Association (Dutba).
