CITY Mayor's office’s hot shot Christopher “Bong” Go used the Mayor Rody Duterte and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte–11th AFP-PNP Basketball Tournament finale to prove that he is indeed the league’s “Three Point King.”
Go won this year’s three point shootout competition officers category on Saturday at the DCRC Almendras Gym in the annual side event held before the league’s formal awarding ceremonies.
The executive assistant of Mayor Duterte hit 14 points in the single round most number of shots made wins contest, nosing out Ireneo Dalogdog of PRO-XI and Nestor Suler of Navy behind a flurry of baskets in the first, third and fourth racks.
Dalogdog scored 12 while Suler made 9 to settle for first and second runner-up, respectively. Police Superintendent Gonzales of NSU placed fourth.
“I got the trophy but I donated the cash prize. It was just for fun after a busy and stressful month,” said Go, who gave away his P5,000 purse. Dalogdog, who initially got P3,000, took home additional P2,000 while Suler, who at first received P2,000, pocketed P1,000 more from the donated winnings of Go.
No prize was allocated for the fourth placer but with the bequest of Go, Gonzales brought home P2,000.
Go showed his three point shooting prowess this season, nearly hitting shot after shot, despite playing not at his best because of his groin injury.
He made league-record 16 triples in a single game against 10th ID Agila Division and converted fifteen versus Coast Guard.
BJMP’s Pacito Morales bagged the non-officers category crown besting Rommel Bantilan of CMO and Filbon Maligro of Bureau of Fire Protection.
Morales pocketed P5,000 for the win while Bantilan and Maligro copped P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
League management committee named rookie John Lumogda of BFP as this year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). The former AMA Computer College standout received a handgun for the feat.
Starring in this year’s mythical five selection were BFP’s Robert Namuag and DCPO’s Robinson Palomares.
CMO’s Rommel Bantilan and PRO’s Edwin Awitin and Angelito Moral completed the group. (RJB)
