Payca wins Datba bowler of the year-A A +A

BOY Payca kept his fiery form to capture the Datba Bowler of the Year 2013 title at the NCCC Mall B3 Center lanes over the weekend.
Payca, who gained a twice-to-beat advantage for topping the eliminations, rolled past Ian Ancheta, 180-159, in the annual grand championship organized by the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba).
Payca pocketed the champion's prize of P12,000 while Ancheta settled for P7,000 runner-up prize. Tans Bernas and Crystal Chavez went home with P4,000 and P2,000 for placing third and fourth, respectively. They also received trophies.
Payca, who had a 23 handicap, toppled 1,576 pins after the eight-game qualifying followed by Bernas (1,571 wtih 15 handicap) in second, Chavez (1,559 with 19 handicap) third and Ancheta (1,562 with 16 handicap) fourth.
In the step-the-ladder finals, No. 4 Ancheta defeated No. 3 Chavez, 196-183, before unseating No. 2 Bernas via a 239-205 win.
The other finalists were Toto Defin (1,550), Danny Usman (1,535), George Dalayon (1,523), Joshua Disuacido (1,518), Rene Zabat (1,496), Billy Magdale (1,490), William Galacio (1,470) and Al Langkuno.
Datba, meanwhile, will induct its elected new set of officers for 2014 at 6 p.m. on Saturday before the weekly qualifying tournament rolls off.
The group also holds a tournament on Tuesday nights.
