IT'S all systems go for the staging of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Davao City Eliminations on Sunday at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina campus and in other selected venues here.
Davao Region Prisaa executive director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, in an interview at his office yesterday, said that all members have already submitted the requirements needed for the screening.
Sarabia said games will start at 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. UM will host basketball, volleyball, sepak takraw, chess, table tennis and lawn tennis while taekwondo will be at the University of the Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) Gym, swimming at Davao Merchant Marine Academy-College of Southern Philippines (DMMA-DCSP) and football at Tionko field.
Sarabia also said athletes in boxing, judo and athletics will go straight to the regional qualifying on Feb. 21 to 23 at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.
Regional champions will advance to the National Collegiate Games on April 6 to 12 also in Tagum.
“We are setting a regional meeting today in Tagum City for the preparation of the National Collegiate Games. The provincial government of Davao Del Norte and other Prisaa Regional officers are joining us in this preparation,” he said.
He said national preparations started eight months ago. Public and private schools in Tagum have been tapped as billeting centers for the 17 participating regions.
Sarabia, however, cited that inadequate water supply in these schools remain a problem but added that the setback may soon be resolved.
Almost 6,500 delegates are expected to see action in the nationals.
Southern Mindano placed fourth last year.
