HOLY Cross of Davao College (HCDC) woodpushers Ella Grace Moulic and Tahseen Saludsong both target the gold medal of their respective events when they compete in the 2013 Batang Pinoy (BP) National Championships slated January 28 to February 1 in Bacolod City.
In yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum yesterday at NCCC Mall Bowling, Billiards and Bar (B3) Center, 15-year-old Moulic said that she is ready for the battle that awaits her in the Games. She is defending champion of the girls rapid event having bagged the gold in the 2012 national finals in Iloilo City. She is also entered in standard and blitz events.
“Lisud gyud kay bag-o lang nidula sa World Youth Chess Championship ang uban nakong makalaban pero tarungon lang gyud nako para mudaog (It would be difficult because some of my rivals have just recently competed at the World Youth Chess Championship but I will really try my best to win)," Moulic said.
The be-medaled player said she no longer expected to compete in Bacolod as Davao City cancelled its participation, adding in the vernacular, "I'm thankful that I'm finally going."
HCDC shouldered hers and Saludsong's plane tickets while the city will provide for their uniforms.
Saludsong, meanwhile, will join the nationals for the first time.
“I am hopeful to win at least one category to make Davao City proud,” he said.
Saludsong is competing in boys rapid and standard events.
Both players thanked their principal Jean Legaspi, advisers Antonio Tan III and Joyce Tripole, teacher Mariano Sobrecarey, classmates and families for the support.
