OUR controversial one-dimensional, rapid-fire slugger is on national television again.

40 – 57 is not the latest UAAP stats in spikes and running attacks. It is not even the one-sided scorecard in favor of Pacquiao versus Rios.

The figures, 17 notches up, represent the speed gun meter of an overspeeding SUV in a 40kph-lane Quimpo Boulevard. The vehicle turns out to be driven by no less than one of our main volleyball supporters.

The speedy driver did not throw out punches to a startled traffic enforcer who plugged her down. Although the busy lanes lack traffic signs indicating the speed limit, she had realized her misdemeanor and did not kick the ass out of a cringing, apologetic TMC officer and instead brings her driver’s license out with the picture that looks juvenile with the popular name of you-know-who.

In the meantime, still in car racing, I mean volleyball.

Agile Vina Vera Alinas had her first taste of topnotch UAAP volleyball.
The favorite daughter of a PNP colonel used to score most of her team’s winning games in Davao City prior to her stint in Manila as a UP Lady Maroon.

This time the stats do not register Alinas in the scoresheet simply because she is no longer allowed to score the way she does in her high school days. Academically, from elementary to the state-owned university, Alinas is top scorer as athlete-scholar.

She can of course make a point or two from under the net which seldom happens if you are the one primarily designated to stop the opponent from scoring an ace.

Our former UIC heartthrob is used to scoring from above the net as high ground spiker.
