THE Crossing Bayabas National High School (CBNHS)-bannered Davao City softball team is confident to win the gold medal in the secondary division when the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet unfurls at the Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City on Feb. 9 to 12.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Coach Willie Bayocboc said, "We are 95 percent confident that we will win because we have been training for such a long time, yet he will leave the other five percent to God if He would allow Davao City’s softball team to win."
“We are in the advantage side. Our players were trained since they were in grade school. Definitely, we will win,” he said.
Bayocboc said that he sees Compostela Valley Province as their strongest rival, saying, “They have good players but we are prepared to fight,” he said.
He said that one of their advantages is having the grade eight student Irene Lumanas in the team. “Irene is our number one pitcher. She is our youngest member but she plays softball really well,” he said.
He said that even if they will never have the chance to compete in this year’s Batang Pinoy national finals as the city cancelled its stint, they are grateful for the opportunity to compete in the Davraa Meet.
“Sulit ang suporta ng aming school at ng mga parents. They make us feel winners already,” he said.
Coach Bayocboc also thanked Japanese international baseball scout, Itakura Kunifuni, who has been supporting them since 2011.
“Mr. Kunifuni provided us uniform, net, bat, gloves, shoes, balls and other sporting equipment. We are thankful for his support,” he added. MDC
