HIGH school students Macy Anne Patricia Salvado and Irish Queen Molina topped the women’s doubles C/D of the 2nd Arki Smash Badminton Tournament held over the weekend at Smash n’ Drop San Pedro Extension.
Salvado of Talomo National High School and Molina of Ateneo de Davao University beat rivals Twinkle Gamboa and Marinelle Diansay in the finals.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Salvado said that they won because of confidence and trust. “Play hard and pray hard, that was what we did to win,” she said.
In women’s doubles level E, Ruby Ibarra and Marielle Gravanza bested Ella Tablazon and Max Delos Santos while Jenny Setrina and KC Danlag ruled the women’s doubles level F even as Bea Lim and Pauline Lalog settled for the runner-up honors instead.
Yong Omana and Thirdy Bacalso triumphed over Kerwin Haw and Von Bautista in men’s doubles C/D while the men’s doubles level E title went to the tandem of Felix Ramirez and Eric Von Huck who outclassed Frank Yap and Joshua Estremos.
In men’s doubles level F, Randy Delfino and Ariston De Leon turned backRyan Bugayong and Donald Donor for the crown while Mimi Gatan and Carlan Rotol ruled the mixed doubles level E, beating Noel Sanchez and Cristina Micosa.
Some 160 players from Davao City, Cotabato City, Digos City, Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City and other neighboring areas competed in the event organized by the United Architects of the Philippines-Kadayawan Davao (UAP-KD).
It was also highlighted by the presence of the Architects Badminton Federation (ABF) players from Luzon. All winners received trophies and cash prizes.
UAP-KD president Leonida Santos said the tournament aimed at gathering the youth sector and badminton enthusiasts, adding, "Badminton is a great way to develop our character. The experience of competition, victory or defeat will help each of us to become better individuals. We are happy to have met our objective and also see families bond and enjoy together,” she said.
The 2nd Arki-Smash Badminton Tournament was sponsored by Davies Paint, Emerald Vinyl Corporation, Crown Pipes and Neltex Pipes.
