PGA Tour Updates. The Waste Management Phoenix Open was held last January 30 – February 2, 2014 at TPC Scottsdale, Arizona. Whenever I think of Arizona, I think of warm weather. Speaking of Arizona, it has been so hot here in Davao lately. What happened to the cool weather a week ago? According to the news, this hot weather is only temporary.

Some of you pa naman were looking forward to wearing your newly bought sweaters from the night market ukay ukay at Roxas. Hehe.

Here are the winners of the Phoenix Open. Kevin Stadler, champion. Tied for 2nd place – Graham DeLaet and Bubba Watson. Tied for 4th place – Hunter Mahan and Hideki Matsuyama. Tied for 6th place – Charles Howell III, Ryan Moore and Brendan Steele. In 9th place, Harris English. In 10th place – Webb Simpson.

Other notables. Phil Mickelson and KJ Choi, tied for 42nd place.

Brandt Snedeker, tied for 61st place. Some of the players who were cut – Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood, Retief Goosen, Rickie Fowler, Justin Leonard, Ian Poulter, David Toms, Ryo Ishikawa, and more. I guess many of these good players are still searching for their game.

Where was Tiger? Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were in Dubai for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic held at the Emirates Golf Club. Defending champion Stephen Gallacher emerged as champion once again. Tiger Woods finished tied for 41st place. Rory McIlroy finished tied for 9th place. Golf break. I watched Mayor Duterte on tv at the Senate hearing. I won’t go into details anymore. One word. Amusing! And so, besides this and besides the Deniece Cornejo-Cedric Lee-Vhong Navarro issue, what is everyone talking about?

Speaking of Vhong Navarro, did you know that he has a current 5-year girlfriend? I read that on the internet. Whether it is a case of extortion or rape or both, a writer from Rappler.com said, “it takes two to tango.” There was cheating. They both cheated. I agree. Cedric Lee showed his rage to us. But how about Vhong’s non showbiz girlfriend? I feel sorry for her, the forgotten victim, the one most hurt.

Guys, if you have not watched the 1987 thriller called Fatal Attraction with Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, download and watch it. The lesson there is...ahem. If we relate this to golf, remember, our golfing friend from Davao who was charged with rape several years ago and was sent to jail for some time…Let that be a reminder too.

Speaking of cheating and recent scandals in golf, Sergio Garcia was a victim of it. He was accused of cheating during the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last January. He supposedly tapped down a spike mark on his line of putt which is illegal. But, apparently, it was a pitch mark that he tapped down and this is allowed in the Rules of Golf.

I would be furious if I were to be called a cheater. And my game would definitely get affected. I can just imagine how angry Sergio Garcia was after being accused. Sergio Garcia told the media, “Calling me a cheat is disgusting!”

Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 PAWD Fellowship Golf Tournament held at Apo Golf & Country Club last February 4, 2014. Here they are: overall gross champion – Fred Albarillo; class A champion – Boy Braganza, 1st runner-up – Jeffrey Ong, 2nd runner-up – Warly Manlapas; Class B champion – Rey Anonuevo, 1st runner-up – Ega Cordero, 2nd runner-up – Charlie Aldevera; class C champion – Rene Ronquillo, 1st runner-up – Rey Atienza, 2nd runner-up – Chito Vasquez; ladies division champion – Rowena Capili, 1st runner-up – Reahna Abella; nearest the pin hole 11 – Rene Ronquillo; most accurate drive hole 1 – Brando Atienza; longest drive (310 yards) – Jeffrey Ong; most birdies – Fred Albarillo; most doubles – Jaime Lopez, most exercised (124) – Ike Pastor.
