Seniors PAL Interclub Golf tourney ongoing in Bacolod-A A +A
Friday, February 21, 2014
THE PAL Interclub Golf Tournament for Seniors is on-going. It is in Bacolod. It is from February 20-23, while the regular men’s division is from February 26-March 1, 2014. Canlubang Golf is the defending champion.
And as for the teams from Davao, I believe that only three clubs are joining in the seniors category namely, Apo Golf Club, Rancho Palos Verdes, and Davao City Golf Club. Lanang Golf is a no show this year.
Good luck to all the participants of the 67th PAL Interclub Golf Tournament!
The media tournament is on February 24-25, 2014. I am joining. I hope I play better because the last time I played at Binitin Golf was during the 2013 PAL Ladies Interclub Golf Tournament last October, and I played terribly. With my driver, I think I hit 80 percent of the trees. But I loved the course! Good luck to me!
On the PGA Tour. A little news on the side. Vijay Singh filed a suit against the PGA Tour last May saying “it exposed him to public humiliation and ridicule" during the investigation. Investigation of what? According to ESPN.Co.uk, “The Tour announced a year ago that Singh would be suspended for saying in a Sports Illustrated story that he took deer antler spray, which was believed to contain the banned substance IGF-1.”
What is IGF-1? Insulin-like growth factor 1 which is also called somatomedin C. It is one of the substances that is banned under the Anti-doping policy of the tour.
And what is deer antler spray? The first thing that came to mind was that this spray was used by hunters to kill deer. I thought hunters would spray it on bushes or trees, and when a deer would smell it, it would get dizzy, and it would be easier to kill. Hehe. Wrong! Imagine my stupidy when I thought that someone was using deer spray on himself. I thought it would give a certain ‘high’ or maybe it was a ‘downer’ if taken by someone instead of a deer.
According to Ron Reynolds, “deer antler spray supplements come from the deer antlers. Antlers are basically harvested and converted into food supplements for human consumption. Antlers are developed into spray products, pills, capsules, and powder for the human body’s easy absorption.” In Singh’s case, the deer antler spray which he admitted taking had IGF-1 which is banned. Oh, for those who do not know what an antler is, sa tagalog pa, sungay ng deer.
I read that the tour usually just tests the urine sample of the players. A urine sample does not detect IGF-1, only thru a blood test. But then, supposedly, Singh admitted it on Sports Illustrated that he took deer antler spray. Huli siya!
And so, be careful what you say and what you write, especially on Facebook! Remember, the online libel issue is very hot these days.
Oh, by the way, eventually, the Tour dropped the case when it was ruled that the spray was no longer a concern. But, I agree, damage has been done to Singh. He was probably talked about and maybe made fun of, kawawa naman.
Next week, i will post the results of the PAL Seniors tournament.
