CMU-Bukidnon booters win UP Min Ladies tournament-A A +A

THE Central Mindanao University (CMU) Bukidnon emerged champion in the 17th University of the Philippines-Mindanao (UPMin) Ladies Football Festival held Saturday at UPMin Admin field, Tugbok District Mintal.
It was a close fight between CMU and UPMin in the finals when a decisive shot from Lovely Correa of CMU beat the keeper two minutes before the end of the second half to seal CMU's victory.
CMU posted four wins, one draw, 0 losses after five games in the single round robin format while UPMin took the second place, 4-1 standing.
University of Mindanao (UM) team A, 3-1, and Faith Academy Blue, 2-3, took up the next two spots, respectively while trailing behind were Faith Grey and UM B both with, 0-5 records.
Roxanne Gonzales of UM was the Best Goal Keeper and the Best Defender award went to Jessica Arcenas of Faith Academy. UPMin Princess Cuabo was hailed as Best Midfielder, Correa as Best Striker while the Most Valuable Player was awarded to Charlene Cabigon of CMU.
Winners received trophies and souvenirs from UPMin organizations, fraternities and sororities.
In a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, UPMin team captain Alleyne Erika Santos said that the seven-a-side festival was their own way of promoting football among schools and in the community.
"17 years na ang UPMin Football and it was our joy to have continued the legacy despite some problems along the way," she said.
The tournament was organized by UPMin Women's Football Varsity and SIKI ni Obli.
On March, UPMin women's football team plans to join the Del Monte Cup in Bukidnon.
