Araw ng Dabaw rugby football opens Saturday

THE Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) and the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor´s Office (SDD-CMO) will hold the 77th Araw ng Dabaw Rugby Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Davao City National High School field.

Rugby Football Davao region development officer Kate delos Santos bared this in a Facebook chat conversation.

She said this will be the first time that rugby football will be played as part of the Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival and being sponsored by the City Government of Davao.

“Our goal is to promote the sport to the Dabawenyos especially in the barangays and communities, showing that rugby football already exists in Davao Region,” she said.

Delos Santos said that the 6-A-Side tournament features four categories: Barangay U14, Foundation U14 Boys, Foundation U14 Girls and Open Division for ages 15 years old and above.

She said that only eight teams will be accommodated per division and that it shall be composed of eight members including at least two female players.

As of press time, teams that confirmed their participation in the barangay U14 are Tugbok Proper, Buhangin Proper and Talomo Proper.

The foundation boys division title will be contested by SOS Children’s Village and Foundation of Balay Pasilungan (FBP) while SOS CV and Tambayan Center for Children´s Rights Inc (TCCRI) in the girls division.

Buhangin Proper Team A, Tugbok Proper Team A, Talomo Proper (RV), Barangay 11-B, Team Wal and SOS CV are entered in the open division.

PRFU is awaiting confirmation of teams SOS CV B, Buhangin Proper B, Tugbok Proper B, Brgy Catalunan Grande and University of Mindanao-Matina.
