THE Lady Knights FC of the Ateneo de Davao University pried the championship from the seeming grasp of Sakya Football Club who went into the final game undefeated. Sakya FC was handed their first defeat in the tournament in the championship round of the 3rd DFA U17 Girls Football League over the weekend at Faith Academy Football Field, Marfori Heights.

Lady Knights FC edged Sakya FC, 4-1 in the titular showdown with Lady Knights Joannah Marie Adao and Nina Arrieta leading the team scoring. A consolation goal from Sakya's Joyce Semacio did not dent the Lady Knights' lead, and had them settle for second place instead.

Hinex Khanj United took third place while the next two spots went to Faith Academy Mindanao and Brgy. Lasang FC, respectively.

Special awards were given to Lady Knights FC's Janna Raizel Barcemo as Most Outstanding Player, Louise Gabrielle Del Fierro (Best Goalkeeper), Ma. Inah Rosales (Best Defender) and Adao (Best Midfielder) while Sakya's Agot Danton received the award as Best Striker.

All winners received medals and certificates from the event sanctioned by the DFA (Davao Football Association) and organized by the DFA Women's Committee Department in cooperation with Faith Academy Mindanao.

Tournament chairperson Rachelle "Ching" delos Reyes meanwhile bared in a text message sent to Sun.Star Davao that DFA will hold the Araw ng Dabaw Festival of Football slated on March 23 at Tionko Field, Bolton Riverside, Quimpo Boulevard.

Categories to be contested are girls U14, women's open and men's open for Davao FA teams only and 1st Division teams & non Davao FA teams.
