REIGNING champion The Royal Mandaya Hotel-City Mayor’s Office (TRMH-CMO) and MP Pacman Warriors drew first blood by beating their respective rivals at the start of the 77th Araw ng Dabaw Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Commercial Invitational Basketball Tournament at Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Sunday evening.

TRMH-CMO, coached by Ronel Leuterio, hacked out a 93-83 win over Montaña Pawnshop behind the heroics of Jojo Tangkay and Eman Calo who drilled 18 points each while Montaña’s Jay-R Gerilla led scoring for the team with 21 points.

Montaña paced the match, 35-31, at the break but TRMH-CMO tightened their defense during a second half rally, keeping the Pawnbrokers at bay, 62-44, en-route to sealing the match.

The Warriors' Biggoy Clavel poured in 24 baskets and Jonathan Parreño chipped in 18. Jumabon Bulac, who succumbed to an injury in the first half, sank 24 for Goldstar Hardware while import Mike Harry scored 16.
MP Pacman Warriors head coach Arvin Bonleon said that their first win was a result of their determination and hard work.

Games were going on as of yesterday presstime.

A cash prize of P 100,000 is at stake for the champion team and P 60,000 for the runner-up. The last two teams will go home with P 50,000 and P 30,000.
