Team D' Hamsins top kayakfest

THE Team D' Hamsins of Davao City emerged champion in the open mixed tandem category of the Mayor Rody & Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Araw ng Dabaw Kayakfest 2014 held at Lanang Aplaya Beach Resort over the weekend.

D' Hamsins bannered by former member of the Philippine national kayak training pool Haidel Hamsin and freelance swimming instructor Yang-Yang Hamsin, registered 44.27 seconds to capture the title.

George Garcia and Weng Pacaldo of Care Group 1 Digos City came second after registering 48.96 seconds, while Team Super Saiyans composed of Kizia Marie delos Reyes and Reginald Sitier settled for third.

The open men's tandem was dominated by Just New Paddlers team of Dannyone Jeff Kasim and Dexter Alamarix of Davao City (45.48), while Edge 2 Alex Soguilon and Rapha Suzara (48.99) placed second and Marlon Albarracin and Leo Godio of Boat Club finished third.

The tandem of Mulatto 2 Brylle Quimintan and Jean Tuvilla stamped their rivals in the novice mixed tandem category. Mulatto 2 timed 48.67 seconds over Edge 1 of Jey-ay Visconde and Clang Calolot (49.63) while Melchizedek Garcia and Rona Leah Oribado of South Davao Mountain Rider (SDMR) took the third spot.

Butchiki's Cybrus Duarte and Marjun Antoque (56.22) defeated the pairs of Nature Spring's Archie Bongcas and Dennis Pabayo (57.21) and Team Bora's Joven Caraang and Ivan Otero in the novice men's tandem.

In the novice women's tandem, Glory Pearl Dy and Angelu Pamila Chi of Blue Team clocked 59.85 seconds to clinch the title over Angie Maestrado and Rizza May Cillo of Mindanao Gazette (1:01.91) and Mulatto 3 duo of Coleen and Jean Lim.

Sportsmanship awards were awarded to Monica Ayala and Michelle Cordoviz of Cycle for Life in novice category and Bill Jotham Cacho of Davao Dragons for the open category.

The 11-year-old Lovely Mae Montibon received the youngest participant award while the most seasoned award went to George Garcia, 56 years old. Mulatto Davao won the biggest delegation.

Cash prizes, trophies and medals were awarded to all the winners of the event organized by Bugsay Dabaw headed by president Danilo "Jun" Bacus and supported by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.
