THE Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) chess varsity Tryout opens today, Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at HCDC Conference Room.
The one-day tryout is open to all fresh high school graduate or incoming first or second year college 19 years old and below.
In a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, HCDC chess coach Ely Acas said that the applicants will play in a seven round-Swiss System format.
“Only the top five in each division (men and women) among the applicants will receive the full scholarship grant from HCDC plus an allowance as a chess varsity scholar,” Acas said.
He said the chess varsity scholars of HCDC will also apply for the tryout as part of the rules of HCDC.
"It is a rule in HCDC that all chess varsity scholars shall apply yearly to make sure that all scholars will work hard to be retained in the list," he said.
He added that HCDC is committed to having the best and most deserving chess varsity scholars and that no special treatment will be given to any of the current varsity players.
“If you want to become a part of HCDC chess team, you should not stop learning and growing,” he added.
HCDC has invited chess players’ Marianne Jasmine Infiesto, Hannah Grace Garbo and some of the young top chess players in Southern Mindanao for the tryout.
