EIGHT players from Davao City made the cut to join the three-day Clear Manchester United Football Camp in Manila on April 25 to 27 following the UFL (United Football League) Clear Dream Match Mindanao tryouts held here recently.
Selected were Leo Abunas, Rocky Custodio, Darrius Joseph Diamante, Yoshiharu Koizumi, Jomar Acedo, Randy Josef Inguillo, Jeffril Cabaral and Stephen Anotado who emerged the top eight players of the Mindanao qualifying. They will join other qualifiers from Cebu (Central Visayas), Iloilo (Western Visayas) and National Capital Region (NCR) to be trained by Manchester United Football Club coaches.
Clear brand manager Drew Copuyoc, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said that the camp aims to grow football in the Philippines.
“We want to get more people to play football because Filipinos do have lots of potentials in the sport,” Copuyoc said.
He said that the camp will enhance the skills of the young football players because they will be trained by credible coaches.
“This is a good way to discover new talents of the next generation of football stars. The qualifiers will really learn a lot from the legends and hopefully after five years they will be able to play in the national football team,” he said.
The yearly Clear Dream Match is on its third year. More football events will be slated this year to boost the participation of the youth.
