THE Davao Durians Rugby Football Club (DDRFC) will conduct various rugby summer camps among barangays and different institutions in Davao City to teach rugby football in the grassroots level.
In a Facebook chat conversation with Sun.Star Davao, Blessie Kate Delos Santos said that a rugby camp will be held on April 8 for barangay Matina Aplaya 75-A at the same time on April 20 for SOS Children’s Village Davao.
“The rugby summercamps will start on April 8 and will end on April 27. In the end, there will be a mini-tournament wherein we will invite at least one more barangay team to join the tournament,” she said.
Delos Santos said that on the month of May, another summercamp will be conducted which will benefit barangay Tugbok Proper while the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) will also have a rugby football training camp on May 22-24 at the Davao City Recreation Center-Almendras Gym.
She also said that aside from the summercamps, DDRFC will organize a Durians Dare (DD). “DD is like a scrimmage match to give the players that much needed competition. It is more challenging if there’s really a match, which can enhance the competitiveness of the players,” she said.
She added that this is the first time that they will conduct a Junior Durians Dare between SOS CV and Buhangin Sands. The two teams are worthy of a match since they both clinched division titles during our previous Araw ng Dabaw Rugby Football Tournament. (MDC)
