THE Davao Dragon Boat Association (DDBA) announced that the four dragon boats that have arrived in the city recently for the Davao Dragon Boat Festival will only be used for training and practice by the participating teams on April 30 and May 1.

In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, DDBA secretary Clang Calolot said that the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) gave DDBA the full responsibility of the four dragon boats to be used in the competition from May 1 to 4 at Baywalk Times Beach, Ecoland.

Calolot said that the association understands the need of the teams to practice using the boats but only in the scheduled dates as stated in the competition rules and regulations.

“Following the federation guidelines, once the team registers they will sign up to identify on what day and time will they be able to use the boats for training so that we could give all teams the chance to practice,” she said.

She said DDBA can’t take the risk that may compromise the safety and insurance of the boats at the same time the assurance of the event.
“In case of any damages, we will not be able to use the boats and which will then compromise the first Dragon Boat Festival of the city,” she said.

She asks for the support and understanding of the participating teams for a more exciting and fruitful event that will be witnessed by the Dabawenyos for the first time in our own city. (MDC)
