UN tops futsal league

THE United Nations (UN) futsal team emerged champion at the close of the Black Mace Security Futsal League 2014 held at SM Lanang Premier, Parking C over the weekend.

UN edged Pitbulls, 6-5, in the last day of competition to garner a total of 21 points following seven wins and one loss.

A win is equivalent to three points, a draw one point and a loss is zero.
UN was bannered by team captain Bayani Vandenbroeck, goalkeeper Marcelo Trautmann, Ganesh Perumal, Mitch Douwen, Mynor Gutierrez, Salem Mohammed Massoud, Alexander Murry, Maynor Gutierrez, Mathias Opperman, Mohammad Ismail, Oliver Rodrigues and Dietmar Speckmaier.

The 79ers-Tisay Bakery that defeated Ultras Beta, 6-4, settled for the runner-up honors with 18 points as it posted six wins and two losses.
The Hooligans, for its part, drew with Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC), 7-7, to grab the third place with 13 points, toting four wins, one draw and three defeats.

The Golden Dragons, which tallied 12 points for registering four wins and four losses, finished fourth followed by Ultras Beta and RMC that shared the fifth and sixth places with identical 11 points. Pitbulls (nine points), Boca Seniors-Cellar de Boca (seven) and Ultras Alpha (three) were at the bottom of the team standings.

Ultras Beta and RMC accounted for similar three wins, two draws and three losses while Pitbulls had a 3-0-card and Boca with 2-1-5 mark. Ultras Ulpha struggled with one win and seven defeats.

Champion team UN received trophy in the event organized by ASFL, Maharlika Sports Development Institute Inc. (MSDII), SM Lanang Premier and Sun.Star Davao.

Assistant technical director Noel Presto congratulated all the participats teams for the successful staging of the event and said that another futsal tournament will be held in July or August as part of MSDII's grassroots programs in futsal, football and tchoukball.
