THE City Mayor’s Office overcame a furious late rally in regulation and outlasted Davao City Police Office, 96-93, in overtime to keep its winning ways in the ongoing Davao Summer Sports for Peace Festival AFP-PNP Basketball Tournament at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center on Tuesday night.

Christopher “Bong” Go scored game-best 28 points including two critical baskets at the foul line, as CMO found enough resolve in the extra period to stretch its winning streak to six.

The City Hall-based dribblers were sensational in the first three periods leading as high as 24 points before going cold most of the final canto.
CMO closed out the third canto with a 64-46 lead after Go remarkably hit a bail out shot near the half-court line at the buzzer. But after the superb shot, it was all a DCPO show the rest of the final period.

The Policemen mounted a rally in the final period behind Robinson Palomares to get back in the game, outscoring CMO, 33-17, and forcing an 81-all overtime at the end of regulation Ryan Lomotos scored six of his 15 points in overtime to lift the cause of CMO.

The Policemen tried to duplicate its amazing run in the regulation but the Mayor’s men showed much composure this time around to seal the win.

Palomares scored 27 points for DCPO which tasted its first setback in five games.

Weng Farochillen, who had 20 points, Lomotos and Go were smothered in the final canto but came out big in the extra period to lead the way for CMO.

Go, who scored 11 in the midst of DCPO rally in the third canto, converted two bonus throws that settled the final score.

In the other match, BFP defeated PRO-11, 101-97, in overtime as RPSB sank Navy, 96-71. (Rico Biliran)
