THE three-member Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Cycling Team is all set to vie for honors in the Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games 2014 mountain bike competition that will unreel on Sunday in Tagaytay.
PhilCycling deputy secretary for Mindanao Salvador "Jun" Paholio bared this during yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall B3 Center.
He said Eric Dhave Apinar, Mark Darryl Echavez and Reymark Legasan will compete in the 23-under category.
“Tatlo lang ang participants natin at kahit medyo mahirap pagsisikapan natin na makapasok man lang tayo sa top three,” Paholio said.
Paholio said that Apinar, Echavez and Ligasan were already in Tagaytay to familiarize the trail, “Medyo mahirap ang trail kung i-compare sa practice area naming dito sa Brgy. Langub Ma-a kaya ngayon pa lang, nasa Tagaytay na ang tatlo para mag practice.”
He said that the different mountain bike races organized in the city have also helped the participating riders in their PNG preparations.
He also said, “May experience ang ating mga riders at may tiwala ako na kaya nilang manalo.”
Paholio thanked the city government of Davao for allocating P30,000 financial assistance for the team.
Apinar, a Business Administration graduate from the University of Mindanao, will serve as playing coach after Roderick Donillo suffered fractured collar bones in a non-PhilCycling sanctioned event.
The three riders left for Manila via Cebu Pacific early yesterday morning and rode their way to Tagaytay. They are billeted at Sun Flower Hotel in Tagaytay City.
