PROLIFIC shooter Christopher “Bong” Go hit twelve triples to lead the City Mayor’s Office past Philippine Navy, 99-94, and grab its seventh straight win in the ongoing Davao Summer Sports for Peace Festival AFP-PNP Basketball Tournament on Wednesday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Go finished the game with tournament-high 45 points in a splendid performance highlighted with his great sharp-shooting prowess that proved to be a lethal force for the Mayor’s men.
The sweet-shooting executive assistant of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte poured in 21 baskets in the pivotal second period as the Mayor’s men rallied from a five-point deficit all the way to a 54-43 lead at the break.
Bigman Weng Farochillen and Roy Bangkas chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively, for CMO that ballooned its gap to 16, 80-64, entering the pay off period.
The Navymen fought hard in the last canto, pulling off a rally behind Ayon-ayon and De Luna, to cut the deficit to a single digit less than five minutes to go.
But the Mayor’s men handled the Navymen’s pesky fightback with great poise, answering back with critical baskets and defensive plays.
Ayon-ayon paced the winless Navy with 31 points. De Luna had 25.
CMO held on to a solo second spot in the team standings with a 7-1 card behind 4-0 Bureau of Fire Protection. The Davao City Police Office was at third with a 4-1 mark.
