First Ciudades bikefest unreels

SOME 300 riders will see action as the 1st Ciudades Bike Festival unreels today at Magsaysay Park to Ciudades, Mandug.

Riders from Davao City and neighboring areas will compete in the 15 to 20 kilometers fun ride category that is open to all young cyclists and BMX riders. The first three finishers will receive cash prizes of P4,000, P3,000 and P2,000.

Mumho president and co-organizer Ferdie James Nervida, in a Facebook chat conversation, said the event also features a mountain bike (MTB) race that has attracted 30 participants from Davao, Tagum, General Santos and nearby cities and provinces.

Davao City’s Eric DhaveApinar, who recently placed fourth in the men’s under-23 event of the Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games 2014 Mountain Bike Championship, and Darryl Echavez of the Rody Cycling Team as well as Samal Elite MTB race champion Glenn Yap are among those who confirmed their stints.

Nervida said, “There will be three laps in the race. One lap is equivalent to 7.5 kilometers for a total of 24 kilometers race route.”

All winners including the youngest biker, oldest biker and biggest delegation will also receive prizes from Lapanday Properties Philippines Incorporated (LPPI) while other special prizes will be awarded to Spyder and Bodybliss Massage.

A bike show, ourtesy of Barneys Bikes, Ridea and Cheab Bikes, will serve as a sidelight to the one-day festivity.
