JMC, UM win 2 games each

HIGHLY-touted Jose Maria College (JMC) and University of Mindanao (UM) stayed unbeaten in their respective divisions at the start of the Davao City Sports for Peace Collegiate Basketball League 2014 at the UM Matina Gym over the weekend.

The Nick Serafica-coached JMC Kings tamed the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Bulldogs, 91-72, Sunday after routing Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders, 93-70, Saturday.

The Kings, thus, led the men's bracket A with a clean 2-0 win-loss slate while the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights occupied the second spot with a 1-0 card following a 90-71 triumph over the Bulldogs.

The 0-1 Crusaders and 0-2 Bulldogs took the bottom of the team standings.

In men's bracket B, Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors and Philippine Women's College (PWC) drew first blood.

Agro sank John Paul II College of Davao (JPCIID), 104-74, while PWC subdued University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 83-74. JPCIID, however, bounced back by whipping UIC, 78-60.

Agro and PWC shared the group lead with identical 1-0 mark while 1-1 JPIICD and 0-2 UIC trailed.

Be-medaled UM Cardinals, meanwhile, scored a twin kill by thrashing RMC Lady Bulldogs, 106-71, before crushing JPIICD, 86-78, to lead the women's category with a 2-0 card.

The HCDC Lady Crusaders also entered the winning column by eking out a 68 44 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Games will resume tomorrow (Wednesday) in the event spearheaded by the City Government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (MLSA)
