Trangia tops Toril rapid open chess tournament-A A +A

HOLY Cross of Davao College (HCDC) chess varsity player Jimzon Trangia emerged champion in the Toril Class B Open Rapid Chess Tournament at the Toril Chess Club Sunday.
Trangia earned a total of 5.5 points, dethroned defending champion Arnold Placencia who was relegated to the runner-up finish. The latter bested fellow five-pointers John Gerard Acedo of Bukidnon State University, Jobert Lumanta and Dondon Ostaco via superior tiebreaks in the six-round Swiss System format competition.
Trangia received P2,000 cash prize while the next four placers went home with P625 each.
Macau-bound National Age-Group Chess Championships girls U16 champion Ella Grace Moulic of Davao City led two other 4.5 scorers Alex Jover and Peter Iba. Alexander Clavite and Dhona Yngayo tallied similar 4.0 points to share the next two places. They each settled for P100.
A total of 30 class B chessers joined the tournament organized by the Toril Chess Club officers and members, and sponsored by lawyer Jong Guevarra, Glen Paclar and Gani Coda.
Cirilo Enobio served as tournament director with chief arbiter Henry Fajardo and arbiter Cecilio Acas.
Moulic joined the tournament featuring more male and adult players as part of her preparations for the 2014 Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) Age-Group Chess Championships set in Macau, China next month.
