HOST Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK) Davao aims to rule the 2014 PSC-AAK Inter-Club Karatedo Age-Group and Seniors Championships on Friday at the Abreeza Ayala Malls set from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

AAK Davao chief Rommel Tan said competition will be tight with 100 expected participants from 12 clubs seeing action in the one-day tournament. Teams from General Santos City, Bukidnon, Panabo City, Tagum City and Davao City will try to put up a stiff contest against highly-touted Dabawenyos.

"We hope to dominate," Tan said in a text message to Sun.Star Davao Tuesday.

He said the team will lean on the services of Pavel Jervis Bacayo, Gabriel Quiñones, Julian Ambrose Ramirez, Josh Andrew Worsley and John Paul Ponce who will all vie for the 15th Malaysian Milo Karatedo Open Championships slated June 6 to 8 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tan, in an e-mailed statement furnished to Sun.Star Davao, said the inter-club karatefest will serve as a tune-up for the Malaysia-bound AAK Davao bets.

Tan added that their hosting will benefit all karatekas in the region, saying, "Through the technology learned and shared by each team during the championships, this will also promote camaraderie among participants."

The tournament features age-group kata and kumite, boys and girls six to seven years old, eight to nine, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17; seniors men and women open kata, men's -60 kgs. kumite, men's -70 kgs. kumite and open weight, women's -55kgs kumite, women's -60 kgs kumite and open weight categories.
