THE Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) is all set to compete today (Wednesday) in the 1st Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Women’s Basketball Invitational at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

AdMU coach lawyer Erika Dy, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said that they are confident to put up a good fight against Addu, Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) and Enderun Lady Titans from the Women’s Colleges Sports Association.

“We have been practicing whole summer for this. Iba din ang naging training ng team namin. We make sure we have all the assistant coaches involved para matutukan ang mga players,” coach Dy said.

She said that their experiences in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and other bigger leagues give them an edge over other teams.

“We are better skilled. Iba naman kasi yung experience naming sa mga league sa Manila. Tulungan din lahat ng coaches. May naka-assign sa offense, defense at iba pa. I look at the overall picture of the game. Malaking tulong din ang league naito for us to prepare for the UAAP,” she said.

She added, “We are here also to encourage more women basketball players in Davao City to continue doing their best in the sport. Nandito kami para makatulong sa pag develop ng women basketball teams ng Davao.”

AdMU's assistant coaches are Paul Ramos, Ron Camara and JP Navarosa. One of their standout players is six-footer Danica Jose, the daughter of former PBA cager Bobby Jose.

Admu's first game will be against HCDC at 5 p.m. today. (MDC)
