THE Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) along with visiting teams Ateneo de Manila University (Admu) and Enderun Colleges are all ready to compete in the 1st Addu Women's Basketball Invitational that was set to open at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center as of yesterday presstime.
Few players of competing teams met with the members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) in a press conference at the J-301 Addu Jacinto campus Wednesday.
Enderun's Mikel Jacinto said, "This is our first time to compete against teams outside Manila and we have no idea how they play but we will play strong for the opportunity to build up the women's basketball in Davao City."
Admu's Sami Bo-ot considers their experience as an advantage in the competition, "Our team is composed mainly of old players. Wala pang nag graduate sa original team namin so basically it is an advantage for us.
Nakapaglaro na rin kami against HCDC during the University games in Bacolod last year kung saan nanalo kami over them. But just like the other teams, focus lang kami sa training."
HCDC's Mary Rose Yray, meanwhile, said: "Nag level-up kami sa strength and conditioning training namin kasi malakas lahat ng kalaban pero kahit anong mangyari, trust lang kami kay God."
Teammate Lady Claire Adorico added that it will definitely be an unforgettable experience and hopes to establish friendship with the visiting teams.
Addu, composed of newbies, promised to put up a good competition. Jenibeth Claire Tiu said, "Even if we are less-experienced than other teams, we will not let it hinder our plans to win. Pinaghandaan namin ito. Nag research kami ng mga strategies na we hope could help us win."
The tournament is initiated by the Addu Athletics Department in cooperation with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.
