UM routs Enderun in friendly game

MULTI-titled University of Mindanao (UM) routed Enderun Lady Titans, 78-44, in a friendly game at Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Tuesday.

The Crisanthemum "Ining" Sarabia-coached UM Cardinals surged to a 17-10 lead in the first period then stretched their advantage, 50-26, at the break.

UM, who steered Davao Region's silver medal finish in the 2014 Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games, kept its momentum and never looked back to secure the match that served as a practice game for visiting Lady Titans seeing action in the four-day 1st Ateneo de Davao University Women's Basketball Invitational at the Almendras Gym.

The Ateneo cagefest was set to open as of yesterday presstime.

Jaive-Ann Mabitag drilled in 20 points for UM as teammates Ana Mae Ontua and Norie Lyn Calope chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Coach Sarabia, who called Sun.Star Davao after the game, said: "Lipay ko kayoo napildi namo sila maski friendly game lang (I'm happy that we beat them even if it's just a practice game)."

UM was also bannered by Jessah Mie Alcala, Jecelle Andrade, Anelyn Climaco, Donna Mae Comiso, Sweaza Mae Morales, Christine Pacatang, Lindabler Sango, Chelan Son and Jane Tumanda.

She also said that it was a good exposure for her team that is entered in the ongoing Davao City Summer Sports for Peace Festival Collegiate Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament at the UM Matina Gym.

The Cardinals led the women's division with a clean 2-0 win-loss record after hacking out wins over the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Lady Bulldogs (106-71) and John Paul II College of Davao (86-78).

Meanwhile, Enderun plays Ateneo de Manlia University, Ateneo de Davao University and Holy Cross of Davao College in the Ateneo women's invitational cagefest.
