Panzer Davao riders set for Asean MTB in Cebu-A A +A

THE Team Panzer Davao riders will represent Davao City to Asean Mountain Bike (MTB) Cup 2014 on June 13 to 15 in Danao, Cebu City.
Riders Andre Buco and Michael Roy Griño, who are entered in the 19-above downhill event, were guests along with teammate Ralph Angelo Rufo during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes yesterday.
The 26-year old Buco said that his team has been preparing since January for the tough competition ahead.
“Nagti-train kami almost every day from Bangkal up to Shrine Hills in Matina at sa Maa kung saan mayroon kaming race track. Hindi magiging madali ang laban lalo na at maraming magagaling na international players pero we are hopeful na mag champion kami because we trained hard for this,” Buco said.
Griño, who placed second in the recent MTB national competition in General Santos City, said that he is excited to compete against top-notch riders like Jeric Farr of Manila.
The 15-year old Rufo, meanwhile, said he will just watch on the sideline, saying, “Dili ko maka-apil kay dili pako mag qualify sa 17 above category pero mag support gihapon ko kay mag compete pud ko sa July ug August for the enduro races in Davao City, CDO and Gensan (I'm not eligible to compete but I will give my support to the team and to also learn from the race since I'll have upcoming competitions.)”
Team Panzer Davao will also be joined by 22-year old Ronnie Urdaneta who is entered in the cross country men’s open.
The team, backed up by Ridea Shop, Barney’s Bikes, Tank Cycles, Woodman Components and Alvin Tan of Panzer Bikes, will leave on June 10. (MDC)
