THE Holy Child College of Davao (HCCD) beat Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), 73-68, in a friendship basketball game organized as part of the Independence Day Uni-Games of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) held yesterday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Thursday.
Both teams were tied at 13-all at the end of the first canto but the Ateneo Blue Knights, coached by Miguel Solitaria, snatched a 21-15 lead at the break.
But the Nestor Sorrosa-coached Holy Child Reds recovered in the third period behind the heroics of Carl Ramos and Allan Beltran who combined for 19 points.
The Blue Knights and the Reds drew again, 68-all, barely one minute left in the game. A three-point play by Cyril Gonzales and another basket by Carlito Rodriguez sealed Holy Child's victory.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, coach Sorrosa said that discipline made them win, “Disiplina lang talaga sa lahat ng mga players kasi marami kaming errors sa first half. Mabuti nalang at na-minimize ang errors sa last quarter kaya kami nanalo.”
SDD-CMO officer-in-charge William “Butch” Ramirez along with Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas (SBP) regional director Regino "Boy" Cua awarded the trophies to the winning teams.
HCCD was bannered by Aaron Royo, Arnold Heje, Leonard Salvame, Winderlich Coyosa, Alvin Largo, Ej Paquibot, Vince Fernandez, Patrick Libres, Judd Omaña, Jamal Bandalan and Dominador Tolentino Jr.
Ateneo was composed of Jeucharist Binoya, Joshua Barrientos, Miguel Belen, Edward Blanco, Ion Angeles, Dariel Manliguez, Francis Escandor, Ivan San Diego, Vande Goor Alagao, Christian Bacalso, Jose Emmanuel Tombo, Kristian Dominic Cane, Lance Carr and Paolo Luis Coquilla.
