UM spikers sweep friendship games

THE University of Mindanao (UM) men and women spikers stamped their respective rivals in theSports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) Inpendence Day Uni-Games volleyball exhibition held at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center Thursday afternoon.

UM men spikers defeated Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), 25-21 and 29-27 in the match officiated by Balibolista de Dabaw.

UM coach Jonathan Vanta, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said his players executed his instructions well, saying, "Confident ang mga bata.
Pinakita talaga nila ang natutunan nila sa practice.”

Vanta in vernacular said that they have played against HCDC countless times and their team has learned from their previous battles, “Despite HCDC’s advantage, we managed to win because we studied their strengths and weaknesses.”

The UM volleybelles, meanwhile, spanked HCDC, 25-20, 25-14, 25-19.
Coach Manuel Ramirez cited UM’s May Shiel Agton, Reynelyn Raterta and Princess Joy Oliveros, all mainstays of the Davao Lady Agilas, for their victory.

Ramirez said in the vernacular, “Although most of our players are rookies, we still made it because the players did their best.”
All teams received trophies during the awarding ceremony graced by Davao City administrator lawyer Melchor Quitain and SDD-CMO officer-in-charge William “Butch” Ramirez.
