IM Dimakiling draws Gomez-A A +A

INTERNATIONAL master (IM) Oliver Dimakiling settled for a truce with grand master (GM) John Paul Gomez in the fifth round of of the 2014 National Championships "Battle of Grandmasters" Open at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) athletes' dining hall late Monday afternoon.
The third-seeded Dimakiling, who hails from Sasa in Davao City, shared the seventh to eighth places with fourth-seeded national master Roel Abelgas in the 11-round Swiss System format event organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP). Both players earned two points each.
IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia, seeded 10th, tallied four points to grab the solo lead while second-seeded Gomez, 11th-seeded GM Eugenio Torre, top-seed Fide master (FM) Paulo Bersamina and WFM Janelle Mae Frayna scored 3.5 points each to share the second to fifth places.
GM Rogelio Barcenilla had 2.5 points to occupy the solo sixth spot while GM Rogelio Antonio, Jr. shared the ninth to 11th places with IM Joel Pimentel and GM Darwin Laylo with 1.5 points apiece.
GM Richard Bitoon was at the bottom with one point.
Dimakiling was to face Abelgas in the sixth round set as of this writing.
WFM Cherry Ann Mejia paced the women's side with four points followed by WNM Christy Lamiel Bernales and WIM Catherine Perena who took the next two places with identical 3.5 points.
