67 teams in Emcor chessfest

A TOTAL of 67 private and public elementary and secondary schools are expected to see action in the annual Emcor Inter-School Chess tournament scheduled on July 12 and 19 at Emcor along J.P. Laurel Avenue.

National Master and tournament director Prospero "Bebot" Cruz, in a phone interview with Sunstar.Davao, said the seven-round Swiss System format chessfest features individual and team categories.

He said Davao City's woman candidate master (WCM) Ella Grace Moulic confirmed to join the tournament, representing Holy Cross of Davao College.

The competition is also open to other schools that did not receive a formal invitation from the organizers. Interested schools may submit all requirements to Emcor Bajada on or before the July deadline.

For the team category, each team shall be composed to two boys and two girls for both elementary and secondary levels.

All champions will receive trophies, medals for the students, plaques for the schools, and other merchandise.

Davao Central College of Toril (elementary girls), Holy Cross of Davao College (High School boys), and Davao Central College of Toril (High School girls) are defending champions. (KRP)
