DODONG Abañes canned 14 points to lift Team Purple's overwhelming 76-46 win against Team Blue during the elimination round of the Davao City Foursquare Gospel Church basketball tournament that resumed over the weekend at the Montaña Gym, Davao City.

Abañes grabbed four steals in the early going of the first quarter as Team Purple capitalized on Team Blue's unforced errors in exchange of fastbreak points. But Team Blue managed to stay within striking distance after falling 16-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Purple turned things up in the second period as they pulled off a 19-0 run behind Tawi Ancheta and Manuel Pabellan who finished with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

Jungjung Elaco led-Blue team, contributed 11 points but wasn't enough to stop the bleeding after being limited to just three points at the break, 37-12.

Purple's 25-point advantage, however, was cut to 15 after Blue dribblers surged a 10-0 run capped by a four-point play by Elaco. But Team Purple answered with a 9-0 run as they pushed the lead back to 24 points.

Purple continued with their fast style of play in the fourth canto to wrap up the match.

In another game, Team Red trounced Team Yellow, 65-58.

Purple paces the league with a 2-0 win-loss card followed by 1-1 Red, 1-1 Yellow and 0-2 Blue. (KRP)
