CRYSTAL Chavez recovered from a first game loss to beat Rene Dalayon, 204-168, in their sudden death clash to crown herself champion of the just-concluded Datba June monthly finals held at the NCCC Mall B3 Center lanes.
Dalayon, who escaped past Chavez (220-218) in the first game, grabbed the runner-up honors instead.
Chavez topped the eight-game qualifying series by hitting a total of 1,618 pinfalls while Dalayon placed second with 1,605. Toto Delfin (1,595) and youth bowler Dianne Galendez (1,581) landed third and fourth, respectively.
In the step-the-ladder round, Delfin rolled over Galendez, 191-187, but lost to Dalayon, 157-178, who arranged a titular showdown with Chavez.
Dalayon, Delfin and Galendez wounded up in the next three spots. The top four players received cash prizes and trophies.
Delfin, who struck for 257 pinfalls in the elimination, bagged the highest single title and doubled the feat by snatching the highest single in the finals with 233. Junix Allawan was top qualifier. Both bowlers also received trophies from the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association.
Datba holds qualifying tournaments every Tuesday and Saturday. All tournaments are sanctioned by the Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC).
