Yellow down Purple, 58-53, enters semis

THE Yellow dribblers foiled a last period rally to beat Purple, 58-53, and secure a ticket to the semi-finals of the Davao City Foursquare Gospel Church basketball tournament that resumed Sunday evening at the Montaña Gym, Davao City.

Forward RR Wong poured in 15 points on top of his four rebounds and and five steals to lead the charge for the Yellow squad. Junjun Noriega added 12 points.

Bonbon Baliong led scoring for Purple, sinking 17 baskets as teammates Mark Feleo and Solis Abay made 10 points apiece.

Wong led an 11-0 run to lead the first canto, 19-7, but Purple tried to cut the lead with a 6-0 run only to be disappointed as the Yellow team recovered to snatch an 11-point lead, stretching it to 31-19 at the break.

Abay's two crucial turnovers paved the way for Yellow to take command but Purple cagers got their acts together as Abay and Baliong
Abay and Baliong sparked a 12-0 run to cut the lead to one point, 48-47, with three minutes remaining in the final canto. Noriega's heroics lifted Yellow's victory.

In other games, Blue toppled Team Red, 57-41.

Teams Yellow and Purple shared the lead of the team standings, toting identical 2-1 win-loss card while 1-2 Blue and 1-2 Red stayed at the bottom.

Yellow and Purple will have a twice-to-beat advantage over Blue and Red in the semis round on Sunday.
